New Delhi, June 9 The Central government on Monday approved an additional Rs 25 crore as compensation for houses damaged in border areas of Jammu and Kashmir due to Pakistani shelling during Operation Sindoor.
Prime Minister Modi had recently announced additional compensation for houses damaged by Pakistani shelling in border districts of Jammu and Kashmir after Operation Sindoor.
PM Modi has announced additional compensation of Rs 2 lakh for each house completely damaged and Rs 1 lakh for each partially damaged house as a special case.
Following the announcement by Prime Minister Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah ensured prompt action by getting an additional provision of Rs 25 crore from the Home Ministry for 2,060 houses, an official statement said.
It further said that similar compensation amount will be provided in the border areas of Punjab as well.
Home Minister Amit Shah visited Poonch, a border district of Jammu and Kashmir, on May 29-30.
During this visit, he handed over appointment letters to the family members of those who lost their lives in cross-border firing.
According to the rules, compensation should be given immediately for the damage caused by cross-border shelling.
After Operation Sindoor, several incidents of cross-border shelling were reported from the border districts of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
Hundreds of families suffered losses due to shelling on residential areas, religious places including schools, gurudwaras, temples and mosques and commercial properties.
The administration took proactive steps to anticipate possible incidents and ensure effective response.
A total of 3.25 lakh people were evacuated from the border districts, out of which about 15,000 people were accommodated in 397 shelters and accommodation centers, where facilities like food, water, health services, electricity etc. were available.
The statement further said that a total of 394 ambulances were deployed in the border districts to ferry patients to hospitals, including 62 in Poonch alone.
A total of 2,818 civil defence volunteers were also deployed for services related to health, fire and emergency, livestock, essential supplies, etc.
