Modi government extended the free ration scheme for six months – Union Cabinet approved

New Delhi | In the meeting of the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday, it has been decided to extend the free ration scheme for 6 months. The scheme was to end in March 2022. After this decision was taken in the meeting of the Union Cabinet, under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana ie PMGKAY, more than 80 crore beneficiaries of the country will now continue to get free food grains till September 2022.

Giving information about the decision of the cabinet, Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself tweeted and said, the power of India lies in the power of every citizen of the country. To further strengthen this power, the government has decided to continue the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana for another six months till September 2022. More than 80 crore people of the country will be able to take advantage of this as before.

Giving information about this important decision of the Government of India, Prime Minister Modi shared a poster with his tweet and said that the government’s approval has been received to extend the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana from April 2022 to September 2022. Under this scheme, more than 80 crore citizens of the country will continue to get free 5 kg ration per person, on per month basis till September 2022.

Let us tell you that under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana, the government has so far spent an amount of Rs 2.60 lakh crore in distributing free ration and in the next six months a number of Rs 80 thousand crores is to be spent on it i.e. under PMGKAY. The total expenditure of the central government will reach to 3.40 lakh crores.

The government believes that even though the COVID-19 pandemic is largely nearing its end and economic activities are gaining momentum, the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana will ensure that no one in the country goes hungry. Under this scheme, each beneficiary gets an additional 5 kg of free ration per person, per month, in addition to his normal quota of food grains under NFSA.

The government has congratulated Indian farmers for record production even in the times of Covid epidemic, saying that the highest ever payment to farmers and highest purchase of food grains.
