New Delhi: The Monsoon Session of the Delhi Legislative Assembly commenced today with several key developments, including the tabling of CAG reports and the introduction of a significant education reform bill.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta tabled two reports from the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) — one on State Finances for the year 2023-24 and the other on the Welfare of Building and Other Construction Workers. These reports are expected to shape future debates on governance, transparency, and welfare schemes in the capital.
In a major policy move, Education Minister Ashish Sood introduced The Delhi School Education (Transparency in Fixation and Regulation of Fees) Bill, 2025, aimed at curbing what he referred to as the “education mafia” in Delhi. “This bill is a product of widespread consultation with all stakeholders and aligns with our vision of a welfare state,” he stated while addressing the House.
However, the bill faced immediate backlash from the Opposition. Leader of Opposition Atishi criticised the bill, alleging that it favors private schools over public interest. The AAP-led Opposition staged a walkout, demanding that the bill be referred to a Select Committee for further review.
The Assembly also took time to pay tribute to the victims of recent national tragedies, including the Pahalgam terrorist attack, Air India Flight 171 crash, the Bengaluru stampede, and the passing of former Jharkhand Chief Minister Shibu Soren. A moment of silence was observed in their memory.
During the afternoon session, BJP MLA Abhay Verma presented a Motion of Thanks praising the Indian Armed Forces for their role in Operation Sindoor and Operation Mahadev, launched in response to the Pahalgam attack. CM Rekha Gupta lauded the forces’ “bravery and valour,” stating that the operations served as a measure of justice for the victims’ families.
Opposition leader Atishi echoed the condemnation of terrorism but took a swipe at the Central government, accusing it of inaction and insufficient response to cross-border threats.
This session is also historic as it marks the first fully digital and paperless sitting of the Delhi Legislative Assembly, following the launch of the National e-Vidhan Application (NeVA). The initiative was formally inaugurated by Union Minister of State for Law and Justice, Arjun Ram Meghwal, on the Assembly premises yesterday.
The Monsoon Session is expected to continue with debates on various legislative and public interest issues over the coming days.
