Mumbai’s suspended police officer Sachin Waje dismissed from service for murder accused

Mumbai| Mumbai Police suspended Assistant Inspector of Police Sachin Waje from service on Tuesday. Sachin Waje was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in the case of industrialists Mukesh Ambani’s house with a car loaded with explosives and the death of businessman Mansukh Hiren. Waje was suspended after the name surfaced in the case, while he has now been shown completely out of service.

Waje (49) is currently in judicial custody. He has handled some of the biggest investigations in the city of Mumbai as a police officer.

The order for dismissal of Waje was issued by Commissioner of Police Hemant Nagrale on Tuesday evening.

He was arrested on March 13 after the NIA took charge of investigating two sensitive cases.

A statement of the Mumbai Police said the order has been issued today by the Commissioner of Police, Greater Mumbai under the provisions of Section 311 (2) (b) of the Constitution of India.

On the night of 24-25 February, a Scorpio car was found abandoned outside Antilia on South Mumbai’s Padder Road. On the afternoon of February 25, police recovered 20 gelatin explosive sticks from the car. The investigation of the case was taken up by Sachin Waje, posted at the Crime Branch of the Mumbai Police at that time.

The investigation was later taken over by the NIA. On March 5, the body of Mansukh Hiren, owner of this Scorpio, was recovered. After this, Maharashtra ATS started the investigation by registering a case of Mansukh’s murder. The NIA arrested Sachin Waje on 13 March. Later investigation of both the cases was handed over to the NIA.

Significantly, after the Antelia case, there was a political storm in Maharashtra, when the Maharashtra government transferred Mumbai Police Commissioner Paramvir Singh, then he accused Home Minister Anil Deshmukh of making 100 million rupees from the city. Used to say Politics got heated after Paramveer Singh’s allegations and eventually Anil Deshmukh had to resign.
