Opposition alliance cannot happen without Congress: Jairam Ramesh

New Delhi | The Congress on Sunday said that without it any alliance will fail and no alliance in the opposition can be successful without the Congress. In its plenary meeting, the party will discuss alliances in the states as well as the 2024 general elections. Addressing a press conference here, Jairam Ramesh said, there can be no opposition alliance without Congress and without Congress any alliance will fail, but in the plenary session, Congress will discuss both pre-poll alliance and post-poll alliance.

He said that it is false propaganda that Congress is against the idea of alliance, we are in alliance in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Bihar and some states of the Northeast.

He said the Congress is trying to take like-minded parties along and in the budget session, the opposition jointly demanded a JPC on the Adani Hindenburg Report, barring some.

Jairam also welcomed Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s statement on Saturday that the Congress and its leader Rahul Gandhi should take a decision on opposition unity without any delay.

Kumar had said that, ‘If all the opposition parties, including the Congress, contest the elections together, the BJP will get less than 100 seats in the Lok Sabha elections to be held next year.’

The Chief Minister said, soon after the formation of the Grand Alliance government in Bihar, I met Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi. Now I am waiting for Congress’s decision on opposition unity.

Kumar said, if the Congress leads the opposition unity and takes my suggestions, the BJP will get less than 100 seats in the Lok Sabha elections. We are working for opposition unity in Bihar.

Nitish Kumar said, when I came out of NDA, every opposition party welcomed me. If every opposition party unites before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, BJP will face a whitewash. I have no personal desire to lead the country. I just want change. Whatever it is, decided by the opposition parties, I will accept it.
