PM Modi met Zelensky, said- ‘Will do whatever we can to resolve the war’

New Delhi| Prime Minister Narendra Modi met the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky in Hiroshima on Saturday. During this, the PM said that India will do whatever it can to resolve the Russia-Ukraine war. The two leaders met for the first time since Russia launched a “special military operation” on Ukraine on February 24 last year. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is in Japan to attend the G-7 Summit.

The PM tweeted that he met President Zelensky in Hiroshima. Conveyed our clear support for dialogue and diplomacy to find a way forward. We will continue to provide humanitarian assistance to the people of Ukraine.

During their meeting on the sidelines of the G-7 summit, Modi told the Ukrainian President, “We have been talking on the phone for the last one-and-a-half years and after Glasgow, we got a chance to meet in person.” Ukraine war is a big issue in the world. The whole world is feeling the effects of the war.

I do not consider it a political or economic issue. For me, it is an issue of humanity and India will do whatever it can to resolve the war. According to media reports, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval were also present in the meeting.

After the meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Ukraine’s President Zelensky tweeted, “There was a meeting with Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi in Japan. I briefed the interlocutor in detail about the Ukrainian Peace Formula initiative and invited India to join its implementation.

The Ukrainian President further said, I talked about the needs of Ukraine. I thank India for supporting the territorial integrity and sovereignty of our country, especially in the form of international organizations, and for providing humanitarian assistance to Ukraine.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is attending the G-7 Summit under the Japanese Presidency at the invitation of Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.
