New Delhi, Nov 21 . Guyana’s President Dr. Mohammed Irfan Ali conferred the country’s highest civilian honour ‘The Order of Excellence’ on India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
PM Narendra Modi is the fourth foreign leader to be honoured with Guyana’s highest national award.
Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said in a post on X, “Another achievement for India! Guyana’s President Dr. Mohammed Irfan Ali conferred the country’s highest national award ‘The Order of Excellence’ on Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his exceptional service to the global community, statesmanship and contribution to deepening India-Guyana relations.”
On this occasion, President Irfan said that technology, innovation and digitalisation should not be used to increase the distance between countries. These advancements should be used to reduce distance and poverty and bring the world together.
PM Narendra Modi thanked the President of Guyana for the ‘Order of Excellence’ honour. He said, “My heartfelt thanks to President Dr. Irfan Ali for conferring on me Guyana’s highest honour, ‘The Order of Excellence’. This honour is not only mine but the honour of 140 crore people of India.”
PM Modi said, “President Irfan Ali contributed a lot in taking these relations to unprecedented heights. In today’s discussions, I felt his affection and respect for the people of India. India is also ready to walk shoulder to shoulder with Guyana in every field. Our cooperation as two democracies is important not only for bilateral relations but for the entire Global South.
He said, “Blessed with many rivers, waterfalls and lakes, Guyana is called the ‘land of many waters’. Just as Guyana’s rivers are part of the cultural identity of its people, India’s great rivers like the Ganges, Yamuna and Brahmaputra have been the birthplace of our ancient civilization. There are many such examples of similarities between India and Guyana that further deepen our historical ties.”
