Rajpath to be renamed as ‘Kartavya Path’, NDMC approves proposal

New Delhi | The historic Rajpath will now be known as the Kurtavya Path. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the refurbished ‘Kurtavya Path and Central Vista Avenue on Thursday. Announcing this, Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Culture Meenakshi Lekhi said that she will reaffirm her commitment to serve her motherland in this ‘Amrit Kaal’.

The renaming of Rajpath to ‘Kurtavya Path’ is a reminder. The Lok Sabha MP tweeted, symbolizing not ‘right to rule’ but ‘duty to serve.

He said, “Congratulations to all citizens on this historic decision. It will reaffirm our commitment to serving the motherland in this Amritkal.”

Earlier on Wednesday, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) approved a proposal to change the name of Rajpath to ‘Kurtavya Path’. After approval, the entire stretch and area from Netaji’s statue at India Gate to Rashtrapati Bhavan will now be called ‘Kurtavya Path’.

The Prime Minister will also unveil the statue of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose at India Gate on the occasion. These steps are in line with the Prime Minister’s second ‘Panch Prana’ for a New India in Amrit Kaal.

Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s statue, which will be unveiled by the Prime Minister, is being installed at the same place where the hologram statue of Netaji was unveiled on Parakram Divas (January 23) earlier this year. This granite statue is a fitting tribute to Netaji’s immense contribution to our freedom struggle and will be a symbol of the nation’s indebtedness to him.

Arun Yogiraj is a prominent sculptor. The 28 feet high statue designed by him is carved out of a single granite stone and weighs about 65 metric tons.
