Russia fulfilling its commitments on climate change: Putin

Moscow| Russian President Vladimir Putin said that his country is ready to cooperate internationally in seeking effective solutions to the problems of global climate change. According to the report of Xinhua, the whole international community needs to work in unison to fight against climate change.

“We believe that the United Nations (UN) Universal Agreement needs to enact a concrete law with international cooperation to control and reduce greenhouse gas emissions,” he said.

According to Putin, Russia is fully responsible for its international obligations in the region, including the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, the Kyoto Protocol and the Paris Agreement.

He considers it important to establish comprehensive and effective international cooperation for the calculation and monitoring of emissions of all types of harmful substances in the atmosphere.

Putin suggested that all interested countries be involved in scientific research efforts, invest together in important climate projects and engage in the development of low carbon technologies.

The Russian leader stressed that global development should not only be ‘green’, but also sustainable and inclusive.

Putin said, “It must be linked with progress in essential areas as the country continues to fight against poverty and development gaps.”
