Srinagar’s Tulip Garden to open on March 20

Srinagar| The famous Tulip Garden in Srinagar city of Jammu and Kashmir will be opened on March 20. 1.5 million tulips are expected to bloom this year.

Shaikh Fayaz, Commissioner/Secretary of Floriculture Department told some journalists that due to comparatively better weather this season the Tulip Garden will be opened earlier than normal.

He said last year 2 lakh tourists had visited the garden.

Another tulip garden will be developed at Sonmarg hill station while a rose garden will be in Pahalgam, the official said.

He said that 100 canals of land have been identified for setting up Tulip Garden at Sonmarg.

“The department is all set to develop new themed gardens in the valley to attract more tourists, apart from maintaining the old gardens.

“The department is now handling the parks which have more than 10 canals of land and the rest smaller parks have been handed over to the municipality.

” The department has taken over such parks which were earlier controlled by the J&K Bank. such as Iqbal Park and Badamwari Garden.

“The department is all set this year and new projects are being taken up for beautification and maintenance of new parks and parks in the Kashmir Valley,” the official said.
