Lucknow, May 31 . The speculation about the new Director General of Police (DGP) in Uttar Pradesh has come to an end. 1991 batch IPS officer Rajiv Krishna has been appointed as the new acting DGP of UP. This information has been given by the government.
For the past one week, there was a lot of speculation that the service of the current DGP Prashant Kumar could be extended, but the government made Rajiv Krishna the new acting DGP of the state. At present, he is simultaneously handling the responsibilities of two posts like DG Intelligence and Chairman of Police Recruitment Board.
Rajiv Krishna is counted among the close and trusted officers of the government. For the selection of DGP, the state government had approved the Director General of Police, Uttar Pradesh (Chief of Police Force of Uttar Pradesh) Selection and Appointment Rules 2024 last year, but a committee has not been formed under it yet. In such a situation, in case Prashant Kumar does not get extension of service, DG Vigilance Rajiv Krishna was considered the strongest contender for DGP.
Rajiv Krishna, who is handling the responsibility of Director Vigilance along with the Chairman of UP Police Recruitment and Promotion Board, has been made DGP by superseding 11 senior IPS officers.
After the paper leak in the direct recruitment examination for 60,244 posts of constable civil police in the state, the government had entrusted Rajiv Krishna with the responsibility of the post of Chairman of the Recruitment Board. He conducted the examination efficiently. This increased the confidence of the state government in him.
Gautam Budh Nagar resident Rajiv Krishna has done engineering in Electronics and Communication. Rajiv Krishna, who has received the President’s Gallantry Award twice, still has a long service period. He still has four years and one month left for his retirement. Therefore, there is every possibility of him being made the permanent DGP.
