Appointment dispute in DU, Ministry of Education begins to find new VC

NEW DELHI | In an order issued on the website of Delhi University, Professor PC Jha of the Department of Operational Research has been appointed as Director and Acting Registrar of South Campus. A few hours later, DU issued a new order. In this order, Executive VC PC Joshi ordered Jha to vacate the office immediately. IANS has a copy of both these commands. Actually DU Vice Chancellor Professor Yogesh Tyagi is unwell. In view of this, the search for a new Vice Chancellor is being started in Delhi University. The preparatory process for the appointment of the new Vice Chancellor has also been started. The Union Ministry of Education has given instructions to start this process. There is only 5 months left for the tenure of the current Vice Chancellor, while the process of appointing a new Vice Chancellor begins 6 months earlier.

Professor PC Joshi is handling the entire assignment in the absence of the Vice Chancellor of Delhi University. DU was interviewed on 10 October for the post of total secretary. The UGC convened an online meeting on 20 October to discuss this. But no agreement could be reached even in this meeting.

Vikas Gupta has now been appointed as the Registrar in Delhi University. The Executive Council appointed Vikas Gupta as the Registrar late on Wednesday night. At the same time, the Registrar’s Office has declared the Executive Council illegal. Late Wednesday, Executive Vice Chancellor PC Joshi issued an order that the DU employee did not accept the order of PC Jha.

Executive Vice Chancellor PC Joshi released the information saying that the appointment of PC Jha is wrong. He has been ordered to vacate the office immediately. The DU Executive Council appointed Professor Vikas Gupta as the Registrar.

On the other hand, Professor Rajiv Ray, President of Delhi University Teachers Association has registered his objection on this whole matter. He said, “The removal of one officer, and threatening letters are extremely disturbing. While one registrar occupied the office, the other was acting as member secretary of the scheduled meeting of the Executive Council, which the former Canceled, postponed. Never before has this happened in the history of the university. These days are extremely unfortunate and humiliating. It will only destabilize the university and damage its reputation. “
