Target to plant 33 lakh saplings in Delhi

New Delhi | Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai held a virtual meeting with all the green departments regarding the massive plantation drive. Van Mahotsav will be organized in Delhi from 26 June to 11 July. In this, instructions have been given to all the departments to ensure their participation. Along with this, instructions have been given to complete the third-party audit of the plantation work at the earliest and submit the report. This year a target has been set to plant 33 lakh saplings across Delhi under the tree plantation drive.

After the meeting, Environment Minister Gopal Rai said that the Delhi government will lay more emphasis on planting such saplings, which can reduce Delhi’s air pollution. The Delhi government will also run a campaign for this. Also, under this campaign, by making the people of Delhi aware, they will also connect with them.

The Delhi government has set a target of planting 33 lakh saplings this year in the tree plantation drive. In this, about 18 lakh saplings will be planted by different departments of the Delhi government. It includes departments like Forest Department, PWD, DTC, Education, DSIIDC, Delhi Jal Board, etc.

6 lakh saplings will be planted by DDA in Delhi. 5 lakh saplings will be planted by NDMC and 3 lakh 30 thousand saplings will be planted by all three MCDs. Apart from this, saplings will also be planted through Metro, CPWD, Northern Railway, NDPL, Delhi Cantonment Board, BSES etc.

Gopal Rai said that all cabinet ministers of Delhi, Speaker of Delhi Legislative Assembly, MLAs, NGOs and RWAs will participate in this mega plantation drive.

The Environment Minister informed that a mega plantation drive of medicinal plants has been started on the occasion of World Environment Day. The government has 14 nurseries in Delhi. Anyone can visit our nursery and get medicinal plants free of cost. The medicinal plants available in Delhi Government Nursery are Amla, Guava, Arjun, Jamun, Neem, Tulsi etc.
