New Delhi | The first patient of monkeypox has been confirmed in Delhi. A 34-year-old man has been found infected with this disease and has been isolated at Lok Nayak Hospital (LNJP). This information was officially given by the Union Health Ministry on Sunday. The ministry said in a statement that the case has been confirmed by the National Institute of Virology (NIV), Pune. It said, “The patient is presented in the isolation center at Lok Nayak Hospital. Close contacts have been identified, who are under quarantine as per MoHFW guidelines.”

After the first case was reported in Delhi, the total cases of monkeypox in India increased to 4.

The World Health Organization on Saturday declared monkeypox a global emergency in view of the rapidly increasing cases.

The global health body said the outbreak of monkeypox in more than 70 countries is an ‘extraordinary’ situation, which has now become a global emergency.
