THIS IS HOW IIT ROPAR WILL CONDUCT THE UPCOMING SEMESTER FOR NEW STUDENTS

ROPAR: Indian Institute of Technology Ropar will go completely online next semester in view of the COVID-19 pandemic so there is no compromise on the safety and well-being of students or academics.

The Institute has planned extensively to impart online education to the new B Tech students. This is a very special semester divided into trimesters, as COVID-19 situation has made different where the departments, academic section, role of faculty advisor and IT
section comes into the picture.

As per the senate guidelines for semester 2020-21, all undergraduate and postgraduate
students will be attending the classes remotely from home. The Senate is a body which
decides matters on academic affairs of the Institute. Registration of New B.Tech students will start from November 11, 2020. Induction Programme for UG Students and Department
Orientation for UG Students will be from 12 th November to 17 th November 2020.
Commencement of Online classes will be from 18 th November 2020. The first trimester will end on 29 th January 2021. All this will happen in online mode.

Likewise, the second trimester will begin on 30 th January 2021 and will end on 23 rd April 2021 with online exams and evaluation. The Third Trimester will begin from 3 rd April to 2 nd July 2021 with all grading and evaluation of examinations. Students have been advised to ensure that they have broadband or a 4G connection for streaming lecture videos and live discussion classes. The Institute also intends to reach out to students through email keeping them posted about the new developments in this regard.

For online courses, the process for making the course content available has three steps,
Lecture recording, Content hosting, Content archiving. All evaluations shall be conducted by
the course instructors using online exams, term papers and presentations, in video
assignments, pop-quizzes, take-home assignments and online viva-voce. The online
semester will also give importance to continuous assessment in the evaluation process. The
exact weightage for each component would be decided by the faculty and shared with the
students right at the start of the semester.

A week’s material for all lectures will be made available at least one week in advance over
a dedicated online platform. For each lecture, faculty will also create audio or video content
along with the written notes to be shared with the class on this platform. A web guide has
also been prepared for the faculty to understand the initial preparation required for online
classes.
