Women’s T20 World Cup: India restrict Pakistan to 105

Dubai, Oct 6  Led by medium pacer Arundhati Reddy (3/19), India restricted arch-rivals Pakistan to a paltry 105 for eight in 20 overs in their second Group A match of the Women’s T20 World Cup on Sunday.

At one stage, it looked like Pakistan might not be able to play the full 20 overs but Pakistan picked up the pace in the final overs. Shobhana Asha also dropped two catches but overall India restricted Pakistan to a low total.

India came into Sunday’s match on the back of a 58-run loss to New Zealand while Pakistan registered a 31-run upset win over Sri Lanka. The match, which was played on a new pitch, is also the 100th T20 match to be played in Dubai.

Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat first. But after losing Gul Ferozza in the first over, Pakistan never got back on track and lost wickets at regular intervals. Muniba Ali (17), Nida Dar (28), skipper Fatima Sana (13) and Syeda Arub Shah (14) were the other batsmen to reach double figures.

For India, Arundhati Reddy took three wickets for 19 runs in four overs while Shreyanka Patil took two wickets for just 12 runs. Renuka Singh, Deepti Sharma and Shobhana Asha got one wicket each.
