1,493 teachers die from Corona in South Africa

JOHANNESBURG | Basic Education Minister Angie Motshega said that the coronavirus epidemic has had a huge impact on South Africa’s education system, as 1,493 teachers died this year due to the disease. In an announcement on Thursday, the minister said that the 2020 academic year was the most challenging because of the disruption caused by the epidemic, Xinhua reported.

He said, “At this point, I also want to accept the fact that we have lost about 1,493 teachers during this difficult time. We have lost many of our cadres. We have lost many district officials,  lost officers. ”

Despite this, the 2021 academic year will begin on 25 January and classes will be started on 27 January.

In South Africa, as of Friday, a coronavirus investigation report found 892,813 cases, while 24,011 people have died due to the virus so far.
