4 officers suspended on getting EVM in a private car in Assam

New Delhi | The Election Commission has suspended four polling officers amidst uproar over the incident of EVMs being found in the car of a BJP leader in Assam. However, the Commission has said that the electronic voting machine is completely safe and the seal is well maintained. Actually, on April 1, voting was also held in Karimganj in the second phase of the assembly elections in Assam. In the night, seeing the EVM in the BJP candidate’s vehicle, people created a ruckus. According to the Election Commission statement on the incident, polling officials took a lift in another train passing by after the government car broke down. Later it was revealed that this vehicle belonged to the BJP candidate.

According to the Election Commission, BU, CU and VVPAT was found with EVMs during the investigation after complaints by the people. No tampering from the machine was found. The machine with the seal was deposited in the strong room. The Election Commission has taken suspension action against a total of four polling officers, believing it to be a violation of the transport protocol. At the same time, with the issue of notice to the presiding officer, a report has been sought from the Special Observer. However, the Commission has decided to re-vote at the Indira MV School Polling Booth when questions arise.
