4-week new lockdown starts in England from Thursday

LONDON| The four-week new lockdown came into effect on Thursday amid the second wave of the ongoing Kovid-19 in England. In this lockdown, people will have to stay at home, while non-essential shops, pubs and gyms will remain closed. The BBC reported that on Wednesday MPs voted in favor of a motion to impose a lockdown, with 39 against 516 votes being passed.

MPs will again vote on the next step to deal with the virus before the lockdown ends on 2 December.

Under the new rules, mixing inside or outside homes will be banned.

All non-essential retailers and entertainment venues will be closed. Pubs and restaurants will also remain closed.

In a warning, National Police Chief Council President Martin Hewitt said fines would be imposed on those who violate the rules.

This time the lockdown will have schools, universities open, and people will be able to meet someone else, but not in an outdoor public place such as a park or beach.

During a debate in the House of Commons before the vote, Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that the second lockdown was something none of us wanted to do but I am not ready to take risks with the lives of the British people.

He said to the MPs, I am deeply saddened by this ban, I have no doubt that this ban will take our country on the best and safest route.

Johnson insisted that the lockdown would end on December 2 and that people would be able to enjoy it over Christmas.

Coronavirus caused 492 deaths in the UK on Wednesday, the highest daily figure since 19 May. 25,177 new cases were also confirmed on the same day.

If you look at the whole of the United Kingdom, the total infection is 1,102,305 and the total deaths are 47,832.
