Subodh Jaiswal takes over as new CBI chief

New Delhi| IPS officer Subodh Kumar Jaiswal took over as the new director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday. He took over the day after his name was cleared for the top post of the country’s premier investigative agency.

On Tuesday, the Department of Personnel and Training said in an order, “The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Subodh Kumar Jaiswal, IPS, (Maharashtra 1985) as Director, based on the panel recommended by the committee.”

Jaiswal was appointed as CBI director a day after the names of candidates to become the new CBI chief were appointed by a committee headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, including Chief Justice NV Ramana, Congress leader in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury. .

Before joining CBI as the new director, Jaiswal was the director-general of the Central Industrial Security Force.

He has also served as the Director-General of Police of Maharashtra and has served in India’s intelligence agency, RAW.

The CBI got an acting director after RK Singh’s tenure as Praveen Sinha. Shukla’s term ended on 3 February.
