New Delhi: In order to maintain and upkeep environment of National Capital area, in a significant move of New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) with ongoing tree plantation drive under the Van Mahotsav is a worthwhile step towards the enhancement of green cover of New Delhi area.
With the dedicated involvement and active participation of the residents of New Delhi area, in the 2nd phase of ongoing mass tree plantation drive launched by NDMC total 519 trees, 65710 shrubs and 58500 green cover were planted today .
In the 2nd phase of plantation drive, hundreds of members more than 50 RWAs had planted sapling in their Housing / Residential colonies and adjoining area like parks, garden, alongside roads and lanes. The idea behind this drive with participations of residents is to systematically engage each and every stakeholders and members of all walk of life .
Van Mahotsav Plantation drive carried out in various locations of NDMC area with the active participation of residents, children’s, walkers at various colonies Lodi Colony, Bharti Nagar, Laxmibai Nagar, Sanjay Jheel, Shantipath – Chanakyapuri, South Avenue and LBZ area.
In the intensive drive of Van Mahotsav different species of plants have been planted like Chikoo (Sapota), Amaltas, Gulmohar, Bottle Brush, Kachhnar, Bottle Palm, Ashoka, bottle brush, alstonia, ashok, Neem, arjun, maulsari, gulmohar, champa, nimbu, Jatropha, hibiscus, hamelia, chandni, justicia, schefflera, murraya, raat ki Rani, Bougainvillea, Sansevieria, syngonium, zebrina, ipomoea, enermie etc.
In the earlier first phase was completed by the plantation of 513 trees, 40000 shrubs and 50000 green cover on last Saturday under the van mahotsav in NDMC area.
NDMC has set a target for the year 2021-22 plantation of total 3850 trees and 5 Lakh Shrubs, which will be achieved during entire monsoon season.
During the on going Van Mahotsava, NDMC will plant total 1475 Trees and 99831 Shrubs plants in the various locations of NDMC area.
The NDMC area, a green lush VIP zone in the city’s heart and covers just 3 percent of total area of Delhi, but it has 64.48 percent green cover with the 6 major gardens and 3 International Relationship Memorial Parks .
Besides 5 Rose Gardens, 135 Avenues of 270 km length, 8 Nurseries, 3 hi-tech Nurseries, 51 Roundabouts, 3 Happiness Parks, 24 Vertical Gardens at different locations, 123 Residential Parks, 501 CPWD Colony Parks and one NDMC School of Gardening in NDMC’s lush green area .
