New Delhi: With the arrest of 10 accused persons including 5 males & 5 females, Staff of Cyber PS of North-West District busted a fake call center which was cheating innocents on the pretext of providing jobs in Hindustan Unilever Ltd. 23 mobile phones, 02 laptops, 06 ATM Cards & Documents were recovered from the premises of said fake call-center. 2 males are main accused (having share of 50% each) and they hired others as manager, executive & tele-callers to perform different roles on a salary ranging from Rs. 10000/- to Rs. 18000/-. They cheated more than 100 innocents in the last 4 months.
A complaint regarding cyber fraud was received at PS Cyber/ North-West District via National Cyber crime Receiving Portal (NCRP) of MHA wherein complainant Ms. Priya Gupta D/o Ravi Prakash Gupta R/o B-Block, Ashok Vihar, Delhi stated that she is a graduate & applied for a job on portal www.naukari.com. She alleged that a call center cheated her an amount of Rs 10,900/- on the pretext of providing job in Hindustan Unilever Ltd. On 13.01.22, she received a phone call & informed that her profile is shortlisted for job in Hindustan Unilever Limited and demanded registration fee. She paid the registration/ application fees of Rs. 1000/- through Google Pay. After telephonic interview round, the alleged asked money from complainant for documents verification. She again paid Rs. 9,900/- to them. Thereafter, neither the job was provided nor the alleged persons attended her call.
In this regard, a case vide FIR No. 06/22 u/s 420 IPC was registered at PS Cyber/ North-West and investigation was taken up.
During investigation, an enquiry was conducted into the matter and on the basis of technical surveillance & information gathered, it was revealed that a fake call centre is being run at a premises in plot no. G-19, Sector-63, Noida, UP on the pretext of providing jobs in different companies depending on the profile of candidates.
After verifying the facts and circumstances, a raiding team led by Inspr. Vijendra Kumar, SHO/ PS Cyber comprising of SI Nakul, SI Vinod, Ct. Gaurav, Ct Pulkit, Ct Shubham & W/Ct. Priyanka was constituted under the close supervision of ACP/Operations and overall supervision of the undersigned. They were briefed properly & tasked to nab the accused persons involved in running fake call center.
Accordingly, raid was conducted at the said premises in Sector-63, Noida, UP and team of PS Cyber was able to nab 10 accused persons including 5 males & 5 females, involved in running the alleged call center. During search of the premises of the said fake call-center, 23 mobile phones, 02 laptops, 06 ATM Cards & Documents were recovered. 2 males are main accused (having share of 50% each) and they hired others as manager, executive & tele-callers to perform different roles on a salary ranging from Rs. 10000/- to Rs. 18000/-.
On sustained interrogation, they disclosed that they opened the call centre in the Sector-63, Noida, UP area four months back and cheated more than 100 innocents since then by duping them in lieu of providing jobs in different companies depending on the profile of candidates.
Modus Operandi:-
Initial investigation revealed that this racket allegedly used to gather information about people looking for jobs from www.naukari.com and they also created a fake portal of naukari.com through a domain godaddy.com. Female tele-callers used to present themselves as executives and after getting leads, they gave whatsapp numbers or mail IDs of male accused persons. After getting resume on whatsapp or mail, they called them as manager and duped callers & charged them Rs. 700 to Rs. 1200 as fees for registration, Rs. 2500 to Rs. 5000 for account opening and Rs. 4500 to Rs. 6000/- for documents verification.
After getting money transferred through various wallets or in accounts, they stopped receiving their calls. In some cases, they used to tell them that they could not be selected in the slot and they would be considered in the next slot. They further ask for more money for their selection by recommendation of seniors. They also pacified many callers by saying that they would be given placement in the next 6 months. In the present matter, they got transferred Rs. 10,900/- as fees for registration, account opening & documents verification.
Main accused persons namely, Om Prakash & Sunny Kumar disclosed that they worked in a call-center in Noida and they got influenced by the lavish lifestyle of their employer. They also decided to open a call-center and earn more money. They took the premises for running fake call-center at a rent of Rs. 22,000/- and live in a rented flat in Fusion Homes, Greater Noida at a rent of Rs. 17,000/-. They paid salary ranging from Rs. 10000/- to Rs. 18000/- to their employees. They were running the said fake call-center for the last four months and cheated more than 100 innocents on pretext of providing jobs in different companies as per their qualifications. They opened many accounts in different banks by name of many unknown persons and got the cheated amount by getting it withdrawn through ATMs.
Further efforts are being made to trace the accounts in which cheated money was being transferred and further details of their wallets and bank accounts is being scrutinized.
