Relaunch of “Raahgiri programme” at inner circle, Connaught Place

New Delhi: Sh. Sanjay Arora, Commissioner of Police, Delhi and Shri Amit Yadav,
Chairman, NDMC, New Delhi re-launched the Raahgiri programme at Inner Circle,
Connaught Place on 19th February, 2023. The programme was organized as part of
Delhi Police Week-2023 celebrations and was in alignment with the G-20 goal of
creating sustainable and livable cities with a focus on sustainable mobility.

The programme was organized by Delhi Traffic Police along with other units of Delhi Police
in association with New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), Raahgiri Foundation and
Help Delhi Breathe Foundation. All senior officers of Delhi Police and officials of NDMC
were also present to witness the event.


The Commissioner of Police flagged off the pedestrian rally as a symbolic gesture
to promote the safety of pedestrians on roads. Then he took a tour of the entire stretch
and interacted with the visitors especially the youngsters including who
enthusiastically took part in various fun filled and interesting activities that were lined
up for the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, the Commissioner of Police spoke about the
importance of promoting road safety, encouraging people to walk and use public
transport and being aware of the dangers of reckless driving as well as drunken driving
keeping in view the alarming number of road accidents and deaths. Shri S.S. Yadav,
Special Commissioner of Police, Traffic, Zone-II described the event as a unique
opportunity to make a positive impact in the society, to have an innovative experience
of roads and to contribute in making the city sustainable, safe and walkable for all.
Delhi Traffic Police also organized a painting competition for school and college
students on the subject of road safety. In addition, there was a nukkar natak
performance addressing various issues such as road safety, women safety and cybercrime
and also a demonstration on first-aid and CPR highlighting the importance of
“Golden Hour” by Indian Head Injury Foundation.

Other units of Delhi Police also showcased their endeavours on the occasion
such as demonstration on self-defense techniques by Special Police Unit for Women &
Children (SPUWAC) and Dog squad of Crime Branch, rendition by Delhi Police Women
Pipe Band and orchestra. Some other attractions that featured at the event include –
Help-desk set up by Special Police Unit for North-Eastern Region (SPUNER), Pledge
Wall and Selfie-Stand to promote safe two-wheeler riding.

Raahgiri foundation also organized some interesting activities for the promotion
of healthy lifestyle such as creating a Road Safety Sports Zone, cycle school, Skating,
Zumba, Yoga and music. People belonging to a cross-section of society visited the place
in huge number and took part in various activities with great zeal and enthusiasm and
appreciated the event.

Henceforth, this event will be organized on last Sunday of every month from 7
AM to 10 AM.
