New Delhi: Due to the rain on Saturday evening in Delhi, the basement of a coaching institute in Rajendra Nagar area got flooded. Two girl students preparing for UPSC died by drowning in it.

Delhi government minister Atishi gave information about this on social media late at night. She wrote on Twitter, “There is news of an accident due to heavy rain in Delhi in the evening. There is news of water filling in the basement of a coaching institute in Rajendra Nagar. The Delhi Fire Department and NDRF are on the spot. The Delhi Mayor and local MLA are also there.”

The minister said that “a magistrate inquiry has been ordered into how the incident happened. Whoever is responsible for the incident will not be spared…”.

It is being told that so far, the bodies of two students have been recovered.

Atishi has directed the Chief Secretary to initiate a magisterial inquiry into the incident and submit a report within 24 hours. The students were trapped in the basement of the coaching institute after the rain.

Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal, confirming the death of a student in the incident, wrote in a post on Instagram, “This incident is very unfortunate and sad. Can’t even imagine what this child’s family must go through. Just a few days ago, a student died due to electric shock in Patel Nagar. Accountability should be fixed for this incident. Those guilty of negligence should be punished.”

This week, Nilesh Rai, a 26-year-old student preparing for the civil services exam while staying in a PG in Patel Nagar area of the national capital, died of electrocution. Waterlogging due to rains caused current to flow through an iron gate near an electric pole. Nilesh was returning to his PG accommodation from a nearby library when he slipped on the waterlogged road. To regain balance, he held on to the iron gate and got electrocuted.
