Jammu and Kashmir: Security forces foil infiltration attempt in RS Pura, huge quantity of weapons recovered

Jammu, September 22 . The Border Security Force (BSF) has foiled an infiltration attempt in the RS Pura sector of Jammu district. The security forces have also recovered a huge quantity of weapons and ammunition.

According to a statement issued by the Border Security Force, “Alert BSF personnel noticed suspicious activity in the middle of the night. They saw an intruder coming towards the BSF fence in the RS Pura border area, after which the soldiers foiled the infiltration attempt.”

According to the statement, the security forces have recovered a huge quantity of weapons and ammunition, including two pistols, two magazines, 20 9mm rounds, one AK rifle, two magazines and 17 rounds.

In view of the assembly elections, security has been tightened in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, including the Line of Control and the international border. Out of the three phases, one phase of elections has been completed and two are yet to be held. Counting of votes will take place on October 8.

In recent times, there have been several encounters between terrorists and security forces in Jammu and Kashmir in which several terrorists and their commanders have been killed. Pakistan is trying to send consignments of weapons before the onset of winter and closure of passes due to snowfall to increase infiltration across the Line of Control.

There have also been several incidents of weapons being dropped by drones from Pakistan near the international border in Jammu. BSF personnel have recovered several caches of weapons in recent days and foiled the designs of terrorists and their masters across the border.

The Army is alert to prevent infiltration attempts along the Line of Control (LoC), but terrorists are now targeting previously peaceful areas like Chenab Valley, Udhampur and Kathua which were free from terrorism till a few years ago.

The terrorists are ambushing vehicles and using grenades and armor-piercing bullets as well as M4 assault rifles. The ongoing anti-terror operations in Kashmir have pushed the terrorists to the mountains.
