New Delhi, May 7. A nationwide mock drill was conducted on Wednesday following rising tensions with Pakistan, a terrorist haven. During this, blackouts were seen in major cities of various states of the country.
Amid fears of war with Pakistan, a nationwide mock drill was conducted on Wednesday. Under ‘Operation Abhyas’, this exercise, which started at 4 pm, assessed the response during emergency incidents like air strikes, blackout and evacuation.
Amid the mock drill in the national capital Delhi, the lights of North Block, South Block, Rashtrapati Bhavan, Parliament House and India Gate were turned off.
The effect of this exercise was also seen in the Union Territory of Chandigarh. A 10-minute blackout was done by the Chandigarh administration. During the blackout from 7:30 to 7:40, the lights of all the buildings and houses of the city including Punjab-Haryana Secretariat, Punjab-Haryana Vidhan Sabha and Punjab-Haryana High Court were seen off. During this, full support of the people was received.
In Haryana’s Hisar also, people gave full cooperation to the administration during the mock drill. After the appeal of the administration, the people of Hisar switched off the lights of their houses.
In Rajasthan, mock drill was successfully practiced in many big cities including Ajmer. As per the order of the government, a blackout occurred in Ajmer as soon as the siren sounded. Its effect was seen in the city from 7:30 to 7:45. Lights of vehicles, houses, roads remained off.
Mock drill was also successfully organized in 15 districts of Uttar Pradesh. A blackout was also done at Maharishi Valmiki Airport in Ayodhya.
At the same time, people in Basti cooperated with the administration in the blackout by switching off the lights of their houses. It was also successfully completed in Gandhi Nagar area. Army and NCC children were also present on the occasion. District Magistrate Ravish Gupta and SP Pratipal Singh Chauhan had appealed to the people for cooperation for the blackout.
Blackout mock drill was organized in 15 districts of Uttar Pradesh including Meerut, Kanpur, Lucknow, Gorakhpur, Bareilly, Bulandshahr, Sambhal.
Apart from these states, mock drill was also practiced on a large scale in Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir.
It is noteworthy that after the Pahalgam terror attack, in view of the increasing tension between India and Pakistan and the possibility of war, India took extensive steps to further strengthen its preparations. On the instructions of the Union Home Ministry, mock drill was successfully organized in many states of the country on Wednesday. The purpose of this exercise is to make citizens aware and test the readiness of the administration to deal with emergency situations like air strikes, drone attacks, missile attacks.
