Mumbai, May 16 Another sensational case similar to the Meerut drum murder case in Uttar Pradesh has come to light from the Mumbra area of Thane. A woman, along with her husband and brother, murdered her friend and attempted to dispose of his body by hiding it in a drum.
It is alleged that Mahjabeen, along with her husband Hasan Shaikh and brother Tariq Shaikh, murdered her friend, Arbaaz Maqsood Ali Khan, a resident of Mumbra.
Senior police officer Anil Shinde said that on April 3, Arbaaz left home saying he was going to Dadar to collect money. When he did not return, his father filed a missing person report at the Mumbra police station. Police then began an investigation based on call records, which traced the last location of Arbaaz and his friend Mahjabeen to the Boisar area of Palghar district.
Following this, the police detained Mehjabeen and interrogated her, where she confessed to murdering Arbaaz along with her husband and brother. Preliminary police investigations also revealed that there was a dispute between the two over ransom money. After the murder, the accused attempted to dispose of the body by stuffing it in a green drum.
In this murder, the woman, along with her husband and brother, first kidnapped the young man and then brutally assaulted him in his rented apartment. They also demanded 1.5 lakh rupees from him. However, due to the lack of money by evening, the young man died in the room due to the intense beating. Afterward, the body was hidden in the same room for two days. The woman’s brother, Tariq Sheikh, with the help of a friend, attempted to dispose of the body by putting it in a green drum and using a bike.
Police have arrested two of the accused involved in this incident. Two others remain at large, and the police are continuing their efforts to apprehend them. Police recovered the body from a drain, wrapped in a drum. Police said the man, aged about 28, was an engineer by profession. The woman’s brother has a criminal record.
