NEW DELHI| Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern for a stunning victory for the second term. Modi tweeted, “My heartiest congratulations to New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern on her stunning victory. Remembering our last meeting a year ago and work together to take India-New Zealand’s relationship forward.”
Ardern has been acting as the 40th Prime Minister of New Zealand and leader of the Labor Party since 2017.
New Zealand voted Ardern for a second term on Saturday. Ardern’s Liberal Labor Party received 49 percent of the vote, compared to 27 percent of the Conservative National Party, a historic mandate.
This is the first time in New Zealand in the last 24 years since the proportional voting system has been implemented, one party (Labor) has won outright seats in Parliament.
