New Delhi: Hindu College, University of Delhi, witnessed an unprecedented cricket showdown as the Principals’ XI faced off against the Alumni XI in a gripping match that showcased cricketing prowess and ignited the flames of camaraderie. As a part of Hindu College’s 125 glorious years celebrations, this Cricket Extravaganza attracted every student and created an everlasting impact.
Under the chilly winter skies, the hallowed grounds of Hindu College became the battleground for a clash that transcended generations, turning the weather into an everlasting warmth of true bonding. The participation and presence of the illustrious alumni added a unique dimension to the event, creating an atmosphere of nostalgia and jubilation.
Principal Prof. Anju Srivastava, the driving force behind this cricket extravaganza, expressed her enthusiasm: “This event was like never before! The legacy of legendary alumni cricketers from Hindu College has played a pivotal role in shaping the realm of cricket, and this match marked another significant chapter in our history at the University of Delhi. Our students are so lucky that renowned cricketing stalwarts, including Prakash Bhandari, Hari Gidwani, Sunil Valson, Venkat Sunderam, Arun Bhardwaj, Himmat Singh, Vinay Lamba, Surinder Khanna, Murali Kartik, Gursharan Singh, Gautam Gambhir, Deep Das Gupta, Akash Chopra, Saba Karim, Manvinder Bisla, Ajay Jadeja, Chetanya Nanda, and many others, inspire and motivate them from time to time.
The cricket match witnessed spirited performances from both sides, with the Principals’ XI and Alumni XI showcasing their cricketing skills, strategic acumen, and sheer passion for the sport. The event drew a large and enthusiastic audience, comprising current students, faculty, and alumni, all united in their love for cricket and their alma mater.
Venkat Sundaram, the veteran player, gifted his book “Indian Cricket Then and Now,” while Arun Bhardwaj presented his book “Coaching Batting Skills” to the college principal, Prof. Anju Srivastava. Alumnus Padamjeet Sehrawat did the commentary for the live cricket match.

The Principals’ XI won the cricket match. Led by the seasoned player Ashu Dani, the Alumni XI team, comprised of acclaimed cricketers such as Utkarsh Chandra, Sandeep Dogra, Nitin Gupta, Sandeep Joshi, Rahul Thapliyal, Sunil Bhatia, Vinish Mehra, Basant Kumar Singh, Sanjeev Singh, Rishi Khanna, Ketan Dwivedi, Pradeep Kanojia, Rajiv Mittal, Satyam Kapoor, Gokul Kaushik, Geet Vats, and Jai Kush Singh, gathered once again on their college sports ground. The cricket match, full of nostalgia and camaraderie, unfolded under the watchful eyes of the umpires Gursharan Singh, Tilak Raj, Devendra Soni, and Arun Bharadwaj, adding a professional touch to the friendly encounter. The Cricket match served as a platform for friendly competition and a reunion for the alumni, who shared anecdotes, memories, and laughter, fostering a sense of unity.
