Accurate research is not possible without debate: Prof. Ramesh

New Delhi: The 5th Research Excellence Awards ceremony of Delhi Technological University (DTU) was held on Thursday, 03 March. The Vice Chancellor of Delhi Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research University, Prof. Ramesh K. Goyal was the chief guest of the function. The function was presided over by DTU VC Prof. Jai Prakash Saini. The Research Excellence Awards booklet was also released on the occasion. Addressing the function, the Chief Guest said that accurate research is not possible without debate.

He explained in detail about the research through PPT. Prof. Goyal said that the research blasts many doubts. He also told through Sanskrit shlokas what should be the research. Explaining ‘Shodh Vivadaya, Patram Maday, Peed Harnay, Yashashvi Guruvaraya’, he said that debate is also necessary for research and the credit of research should also be given to his teachers. He said that research is the one of the Key Parameters for world class university.

Referring to some of the recommendations for promotion of research, Prof. Ramesh said that incentivize research in universities, increase the number and quality of PhDs, Facilitate industry and academia collaboration, increase collaboration between educational institutions and government R&D laboratories. Increase research grants. He said that he would emulate this Research Excellence Awards program of DTU in his university also. Congratulating all the award winners, he said that he is proud to find himself amongst so many researchers in a reputed university of the country.

On this occasion giving the information about the achievements of the university, DTU Vice Chancellor Prof. Jai Prakash Saini said that this type of awards was first started by DTU in the direction of DTU’s former VC Prof. Yogesh Singh. He said that NSUT has also started Research Excellence Awards following DTU. Giving detailed information about this year’s awards, he said that for this year 2021, 199 faculty members and students have been honored with awards worth about Rs 1.5 crore. He informed that this time one International Patent Award and 16 Premier Research Awards have been announced. These include one from Applied Mathematics, one from Civil Engineering, 2 from CSE, 3 from Electrical Engineering, 4 from ECE, 2 from IT and 3 from Mechanical Engineering. Giving information about the Commendable Research Awards, the Vice Chancellor said that a total of 289 research papers of this category were selected for the awards, out of which 22 from Applied Chemistry, 24 from Applied Mathematics, 42 from Applied Physics, 26 from Biotechnology, 9 from Civil Engineering. , 24 from CSE, one from DSM, 24 from Electrical Engineering, 42 from ECE, 15 from Environmental Engineering, one from Department of Humanities, 19 from IT, 32 from Mechanical Engineering, 3 from Software Engineering and 5 from USME.

The award winners also shared their experiences during the function. In the beginning of the function the welcome address was delivered by Dean IRD Prof. A. Trivedi and the vote of thanks was given by Associate Dean IRD, Dr. Ruchika Malhotra. On this occasion DTU Registrar Prof. Madhusudan Singh, all Deans, Heads of Departments and award winners were present.

Research Excellence Awards were started in 2017

The Research Excellence Awards were inaugurated by the former Vice Chancellor of DTU, Prof. Yogesh Singh. The purpose of these awards is to promote research. During the first function organized in the year 2018, a provision of Rs 37 lakh was made for 82 publications were awarded for the year 2017. For the second year 2018, a provision of Rs 43.4 lakh was made and a total of 107 publications were awarded. For the third year 2019, 116 awards were announced and a provision of Rs 45.6 lakh was made for them. Last year (from 1st January to 31st December 2020) 191 awards were announced and a provision of Rs 76.7 lakh was made. For the year 2021, 199 faculty members and students have been awarded with prizes amounting to about Rs 1.5 crore.

Three categories have been set for the award

Under Research Excellence Awards in DTU, 3 categories have been created for research publication award. In these, the first is Outstanding Research Awards, a cash prize of Rs 5 lacks is given along with a merit certificate. The category of Premier Research Awards has been kept under the second prize, in which a prize money of one lack rupees is given along with a certificate of merit. In the third category, a merit certificate and a prize money of Rs 50,000 are given under the Commendable Research Awards.
