Noida, May 16 Police from the Phase-2 police station of the Gautam Buddh Nagar Police Commissionerate have arrested a notorious suspect who defrauded shopkeepers of electronic goods by showing fake online payments. Police recovered 16 air conditioners, a refrigerator, a cooler, an LED TV, and cash from the accused.
The accused would deceive shopkeepers by showing them fake online transactions and then have the goods picked up by a porter and flee. According to police, on May 15, acting on local intelligence and confidential information, the Phase-2 police arrested the accused, Sameer Ansari, from a closed company near the BOPL Cut. A case has been registered against the accused at the Phase-2 police station.
The arrested accused has been identified as Sameer Ansari, son of Mehraj Ansari, resident of Shastri Park, New Delhi. He was currently residing in Qasim Vihar, Village Sabapur, Police Station Tronica City, District Ghaziabad. The accused is said to be around 21 years old. Police investigations have revealed that he roamed the NCR region targeting shopkeepers selling electronic goods. He would first gain the shopkeepers’ trust and then mislead them by showing them screenshots of fake online payments or fake transactions via mobile phone.
When shopkeepers handed over the goods without confirming payment, the accused would have a porter pick up ACs, refrigerators, coolers, and other expensive electronic equipment and flee the scene. Police from the Phase-2 police station recovered 13 indoor AC units, 13 outdoor AC units, three window ACs, a refrigerator, a cooler, an LED TV, and ₹2,440 in cash from the accused.
Police are now investigating the accused’s criminal history and his other associates. Efforts are also being made to determine in which areas of the NCR he has committed similar crimes.
