AIMF To Contest 26 Seats In Assam Polls

The All India Minority Front (AIMF) will contest 26 Assembly seats in the upcoming Assam assembly elections.

In the Assam Press Club, party president Dr. SM Asif said AIMF with other secular and like-minded parties will be contesting 26 seats these assembly elections.
“In the remaining seats, we will identify the candidate who can defeat BJP. The AIMF will support such candidates. It could be regional parties or even if it is the Congress, we will support for Congress to defeat BJP,” said Dr. Asif, who was addressing the media.

Disappointed at AIUDF’s “betrayal” by fielding candidates against his party nominees, Dr. Asif has claimed that Badruddin Ajmal has thwarted a possible alliance with the AIMF.

With the AIUDF now contesting from 26 Assembly constituencies, there is a “strong possibility” of a division of anti-BJP votes in these seats, AIMF
the chief told reporters in the conference.

Dr. Asif further said that his party will protect every principle of the Assam Accord and will never implement the Citizenship (Amendment) Act if voted to power in the state.
