New Delhi, September 27 . Ahead of the election for the 18th member of the standing committee in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), Aam Aadmi Party leader Manish Sisodia has called the Bharatiya Janata Party a party involved in corruption.
He said this while addressing a press conference before the election.
Sisodia talked about rights. He said, “The BJP is completely tearing apart democracy. The BJP is doing new feats every day to kill democracy, the constitution and the soul of India. On Thursday, the Mayor of Delhi tried to conduct elections but the people of the BJP did not let it happen. On this, our mayor, using her constitutional powers, fixed the next date for the election. This comes under the constitutional rights of the mayor.”
The former deputy CM of Delhi further said, the Lieutenant Governor ordered the commissioner to complete the elections by 10 pm. He said that elections should be held under any circumstances. If the mayor is absent, the deputy mayor should conduct the elections. If the deputy mayor is not available, any councillor should be called and the elections should be conducted. BJP people sat there all night. The rest of the AAP and Congress councillors went to their homes, but the BJP councillors sat there all night.
Sisodia called this process dangerous for the country. He said, after this God gave them wisdom. They postponed the elections. They did not conduct the elections at 10 pm. They are now conducting the elections till 1 pm. This is some conspiracy of the BJP. What is being looted in this time. There is something, due to which these people are so desperate that they were in a hurry to conduct the elections at 10 pm. Now what could be a bigger murder of democracy than this, they are saying that the mayor, deputy mayor, senior councillors should be called. Leave it and get the election done by the Additional Commissioner of MCD. This is very dangerous for the country. How can all this happen? Delhi Municipal Corporation is a unit of elected people.
It is known that the election of Municipal Corporation MCD Standing Committee has been postponed for the last one and a half years for some reason or the other. The election was to be held on 26 September itself, but Mayor Shaili Oberoi postponed it till 5 October. However, Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena had ordered the MCD Commissioner to conduct the election at all costs before 10 pm last night (Thursday).
Let us tell you that the MCD Standing Committee is the most powerful body of the corporation. The Standing Committee proposes all the important projects of MCD. Therefore, all the parties want that the election of the Standing Committee should be in their favor. There are a total of 18 members in the MCD Standing Committee, out of which 17 members have been elected. Out of these, 9 are from BJP and 8 from Aam Aadmi Party.
The election of the last member of the MCD Standing Committee was to be held on September 26. But, just before the election, BJP brought three councillors of Aam Aadmi Party to its side and nine MCD councillors of Congress decided not to participate in the election. After this, Aam Aadmi Party seemed weak in terms of numbers. After this, the mayor postponed the election till October 5. Meanwhile, after the order of the Lieutenant Governor, it was decided to hold the election on Friday (September 27).
Let us tell you that MCD councillors will elect the last member of the Standing Committee. One councillor out of 250 has resigned, due to which the number of MCD members is 249. Congress councillors have distanced themselves from this election. Therefore, now only 240 councillors will cast their votes. That is, 121 votes will be decisive to win the election of the 18th member.
