BJP MPs, ministers strongly condemn ‘cowardly’ attack on CM Rekha Gupta

New Delhi, Aug 20 Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta was attacked during a public hearing on Wednesday. The BJP condemned the attack and called it an attack on democratic values and cowardly. They demanded an investigation into the matter.

BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj called the attack on CM Rekha Gupta a cowardly act. She said “The attack on the Chief Minister of Delhi is a cowardly act, which we strongly condemn. But this attack will not break the spirit of Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. She is a grounded leader and works among the people. This attack will not shake her spirit. The lapse in security will be investigated. The person who has been caught, why did he do this, will also be investigated. Rekha Gupta is not going to be scared of such attacks, and she will continue to work in the interest of Delhi.”

BJP MP Kamaljeet Sehrawat told  “For the last five months, since Rekha Gupta became the Chief Minister of Delhi, she has been conducting ‘Jan Sunwai’ among the people and at her residence. What happened today is very unfortunate. There should be an investigation as to why this person behaved like this, as it is a matter of concern. The Chief Minister is not just the face of the government but the representative of the entire city. If a Chief Minister who goes among the people and understands their problems is attacked, then it must be condemned. There should be a thorough investigation and the whole truth should come out to know the real reason behind such an incident.”

Delhi government minister Pravesh Verma posted on the social media platform X and called this attack a direct attack on democratic values. He wrote, “The attack on Chief Minister Rekha Gupta during the public hearing at her residence is highly condemnable and a direct attack on democratic values. The public hearing program is a means of connecting directly with the people, where the public can convey their questions and doubts to the Chief Minister without any fear or hindrance. Any attempt to disrupt such a sacred democratic process can never be accepted. Appropriate action will be taken against the culprits.”

Delhi government minister Ashish Sood called this act against democratic values. He wrote on ‘X’, “The attack on the Chief Minister is extremely sad, reprehensible and unacceptable. This type of cowardly attack on a sensitive and determined woman leader who is constantly working for the welfare of Delhi is against the basic spirit of democratic conduct. This unruly act not only hurts the credibility of our democracy, but is also a despicable attempt to spread anarchy in the society. Strict action should be taken against the anarchist elements who attacked the woman Chief Minister of the state. Delhi Police is investigating this matter thoroughly and I am confident that the investigation will get to the bottom of this conspiracy. I and the entire people of the state strongly condemn this cowardly act.”

BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal said, “The Chief Minister is safe and will continue her work as before. There is nothing to worry about. The police is investigating the matter.”
