By-election dates announced for eight assembly seats in seven states, voting to take place on November 11

New Delhi, October 6  Along with the Bihar assembly elections, the Election Commission of India has also announced the dates for by-elections for eight assembly seats in seven states. Voting will take place on November 11, and the results will be declared on November 14.

Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar said in a press conference on Monday that by-elections will be held in Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Telangana, Punjab, Mizoram, and Odisha. By-elections will be held in the Budgam and Nagrota assembly seats in Jammu and Kashmir, Anta in Rajasthan, Ghatshila in Jharkhand, Jubilee Hills in Telangana, Tarn Taran in Punjab, Dampa in Mizoram, and Nuapada in Odisha.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah resigned from his seat in the Budgam assembly constituency on Monday. He decided to remain an MLA from Ganderbal, making it clear that he will no longer contest elections outside his ancestral constituency. Following his conviction by the court, Kanwar Lal Meena was disqualified, losing his membership in the Legislative Assembly. This resulted in the Anta Assembly constituency in Rajasthan becoming vacant.

The death of Ramdas Soren has resulted in the Ghatsila constituency in Jharkhand, the Jubilee Hills constituency in Telangana, the Tarn Taran constituency in Punjab, the Dampa constituency in Mizoram, and the Nuapada constituency in Odisha.

By-elections will be held in eight assembly constituencies across seven states in a single phase, with voting taking place on November 11 and counting on November 14.

Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar stated that elections for all 243 seats in Bihar will be held in two phases. Voting for the first phase will take place on November 6 and the second phase on November 11. The election results will be declared on November 14. He stated that the Commission has completed all preparations for the elections. He further stated that violence will not be tolerated during the elections and that fake news will also be closely monitored.
