Cab driver murdered near Red Fort, beggar shot

New Delhi. A 36-year-old cab driver was killed and a beggar was shot dead by unidentified persons near the Red Fort in Delhi. An official gave this information on Monday.

In this regard, the police said that at 1:50 pm on Sunday night, information was received from LNJP Hospital that Mohammad Saqib, resident of Zakir Nagar, along with Lavkush (15), resident of Palwal, has been admitted after being shot.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) M.K. Meena said, Saqib died during treatment.

During investigation, it was found that at around midnight, a Maruti Wagon-R coming from Kodia bridge towards Chhatta rail crossing hit a battery rickshaw. There was a dispute on this.

After a brief argument, Wagon-R driver Saqib was forcibly taken out of the car by two people. When people gathered at the spot, the driver caught one of the attackers.

DCP said, as the dispute escalated, one of the attackers shot Saqib and beggar Lavkush. Passersby immediately took both of them to LNJP Hospital.

DCP said, “A case has been registered and the matter is being investigated.”
