New Delhi| In order to create favorable conditions for wider distribution of information through mass media among the member countries of SCO, the Union Cabinet has approved mutual cooperation in the field of mass media. The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given its ex-post facto approval for the signing of an Agreement for ‘Cooperation in the Field of Mass Media’ among all the member countries of SCO. The MoU will promote equitable and mutually beneficial cooperation between the federations in the field of mass media. Each side shall facilitate activities on the basis of reciprocity, thereby ensuring equality. This agreement will provide an opportunity for the member countries to share best practices and innovative innovations in the field of mass media.
There are several features of this agreement. The specific circumstances and forms of cooperation between the editorial offices of the mass media of their countries as well as the relevant ministries, agencies and organizations working in the field of mass media will be determined by the participants themselves. Equal and mutually beneficial cooperation will be promoted between various professional associations of journalists from all countries to study professional experiences of media as well as to organize meetings, seminars and conferences related to this field.
The MoU will encourage the exchange of experience and experts in the field of mass media. Provide mutual assistance in training media professionals and encourage cooperation between academic and scientific-research institutions and organizations working in this field.
