Mumbai, 6 October. Seven members of the same family died in a massive fire in Mumbai’s suburb Chembur.
The BMC Disaster Control gave this information on Sunday. This horrific tragedy occurred around 5.15 am. According to reports, the local people informed the Mumbai Fire Brigade about the fire, after which the fire brigade team reached the spot.
MFB said that it was reported that a fire broke out in plot number 16 of Siddharth Colony, the whole family was sleeping and suddenly got caught in the fire. Two other people were burnt and were admitted to the hospital for treatment.
Local people said that they tried their best to save the family, but they could not succeed.
A senior police officer said that the forensic team is collecting evidence to find out the cause of the fire. Investigation into the incident has been started.
The massive fire, which started due to unknown reasons, engulfed the grocery shop located on the ground floor and spread rapidly. The flames engulfed the upper floor where the family was staying. The shop was downstairs and the Gupta family lived in the house above.
According to initial reports, seven members died of suffocation. Four fire tenders, a water tanker, senior officials of the MFB and BMC were present at the spot and supervising the firefighting operations.
All the victims were rushed to the BMC Rajawadi Hospital where medical officers declared them dead. The deceased include a man, three women and three minors.
While there is speculation that some inflammable material might have been stored there, the actual cause of the fire is being investigated and further details are awaited.
