From DUSU president to Delhi Chief Minister, know the political journey of Rekha Gupta

New Delhi, Feb 19 . Shalimar Bagh MLA Rekha Gupta, who has been active in politics since her student days, will be the next Chief Minister of Delhi. Her name was finalised in the BJP Legislature Party meeting on Wednesday evening. Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena will administer the oath of office and secrecy to her at a grand swearing-in ceremony at Ramlila Maidan on Thursday.

Rekha Gupta entered student politics in 1992 while studying at Delhi University’s Daulat Ram College. She was associated with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and became the president of the Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) in 1996-97, where she actively raised students’ issues. After being elected councillor from North Pitampura in 2007, she worked on the development of facilities like library, park and swimming pool in the area.

She has also been associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). For the welfare of women and children, she launched initiatives like the “Sumedha Yojana”, which assisted economically weaker girl students to pursue higher education. As the head of the Women Welfare and Child Development Committee, she led the empowerment drive for women. Rekha Gupta has also been the general secretary of the BJP Mahila Morcha in Delhi and a member of its National Executive Committee.

In these roles, she led several campaigns for the welfare of marginalized communities and women. Her dedication and contribution towards social work highlights her leadership qualities. Her family life has been a source of inspiration for social service, where the values ​​of patriotism and philanthropy are given great importance. Her passion to constantly improve herself is evident from the fact that she completed her LLB from Chaudhary Charan Singh University in 2022.

Her deep penetration in the party is highlighted by the fact that despite being a first-time MLA, she has been entrusted with the responsibility of the Chief Minister.
