Gayatri Prajapati in ED custody for 7 days

Lucknow| Former Uttar Pradesh minister Gayatri Prajapati has been remanded to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) custody for seven days in a money laundering case over Benami property by a special court. His ED custody starts from Thursday.

Prajapati was booked by the ED in January this year for allegedly possessing disproportionate assets against him after analyzing the Uttar Pradesh Police vigilance FIR in a fresh money laundering case.

The ED had sought at least 10 days custody of Gayatri Prajapati from the court so that it can get good details about 59 immovable properties and funds worth Rs 20.90 crore, allegedly alleged to be illegal mining by the former minister and his family members. And were mobilized in other ways.

In this case, he was arrested and sent to jail on 15 March 2017 and has been in judicial custody ever since.

In December last year, the ED raided their premises and several locations connected to Lucknow, Kanpur and Amethi.

The ED is also investigating their role in relation to the renewal of sand mining leases in the Fatehpur district between 2012-2016.

In this case, it is alleged that Prajapati, in connivance with other government officials and private individuals, renewed the mining leases without following due process of e-tendering and thereby promoted illegal mining in the district.
