Hearing on ‘Waqf Act’: MLA Amanatullah Khan said- ‘We will definitely get relief from the Supreme Court’

New Delhi, April 16 Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Amanatullah Khan reacted after the hearing on Wednesday on the petitions filed in the Supreme Court against the Waqf Act. He said that we are hopeful that we will get relief from the Supreme Court regarding the Waqf Act.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Amanatullah Khan, while talking to the media, said, “This Act has been brought to occupy the Waqf lands. We are hopeful that we will get relief from the Supreme Court regarding the Waqf Act.”

MLA Amanatullah Khan said, “I have been the chairman of the Delhi Waqf Board. There are 1,977 Waqf properties in Delhi, all of which are notified in the gazette. The areas are also clearly mentioned in the gazette. During my tenure as chairman, we won all the cases. The central government had once issued a notification for 123 properties – all dargahs – which they took under their control, but I did not agree with it, so I challenged it in the High Court and got all those dargahs back. The administrative control is still with the Delhi Waqf Board and the case is also going on.” He said, “The Government of India claimed that the Waqf has illegally occupied 123 government lands, if I had not gone to the High Court in the case, all that land would have gone. We took the matter to the tribunal and also knocked the doors of the High Court, where we got justice.” Meanwhile, after hearing on the petitions challenging the Waqf Amendment Act, Advocate Reena while talking to the media said, “The hearing in this case was going on since 2 pm on Wednesday, which will continue further. The court had prepared a list of lawyers of both the parties, on the basis of which arguments were presented. We have also filed an intervention application in the case. Now the hearing has been scheduled for tomorrow (Thursday).”
