Hindu College Celebrates its 125 Glorious Years with a talk by Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman

New Delhi: In commemoration of the 125th anniversary of Hindu College, the institution proudly hosted an insightful talk by the Hon’ble Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs, Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman. The event, titled “Empowering the Youth: Building the Foundations of a Viksit Bharat,” stood out as a beacon of inspiration in the midst of celebratory activities.

The Chief Guest, Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, in her enlightening talk, aimed to ignite the passion and potential of the youth for the nation’s upliftment. She emphasized that the youth of today needs to have a strong value system along with the technical skills to excel in life. She said the time has come for India to become economically ‘Aatmanirbhar’ and march forward to become a developed nation by 2047. She encouraged the students to embrace their responsibility in the journey towards economic self-sufficiency and to utilize the foundation laid by institutions like Hindu College. She also commended the institution for its glorious past, urging today’s youth to replicate the commitment displayed by their predecessors.

Addressing the students, Sitharaman emphasised the strong global demand for Indian students, stating, “Indian students and graduates are preferred abroad because they are good team players and understand the role of leadership when it is with somebody else and the role of leadership when it is given to them. It’s the blend of values and working conditions that Indian students understand, and that’s why they are preferred in workplaces.” When you’re talking about ‘Viksit Bharat’ and empowering the youth, the country needs to have a kind of democracy where duty is taken as a good virtue, and that’s why casting vote should be our duty and not just a right. She further added.

In his address, the Guest of Honour, Vice-Chancellor, University of Delhi, Prof. Yogesh Singh, said that today’s youth should aim to excel in creativity and innovation while keeping in mind sustainable development goals. His words painted a vivid picture of a future where India not only achieves progress but sustains its position as a ‘Viksit Bharat.’

Principal Prof. Anju Srivastava expressed her gratitude for the presence of Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman and highlighted the importance of such events in shaping the educational landscape. She said that the celebration of Hindu College’s 125 years continues to be a momentous occasion, marked by insightful discussions, inspirational talks, and a resolute commitment to charting a visionary course for the nation’s future through the transformative power of education. In a bid to encourage the upcoming generation to pursue careers in science and technology, Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman distributed replica models of Chandrayaan-3 to five school students, she informed.

The event didn’t just stop at speeches; it delved into the heart of contemporary issues during the engaging Q and A session. Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman tackled questions on digital currency, agriculture, and future growth sectors, adding a vibrant and interactive layer to the celebration.
