Hindu College Hosts Special Parliament Session with Hon’ble Union Minister Shri Hardeep Singh Puri

New Delhi: Hindu College, a leading institution of Delhi University, renowned not only for its academic excellence but also for its unique parliamentary system, as the Republic of Hindu College, remains committed to maintaining its tradition of promoting intellectual discourse and offering a platform for meaningful discussions. The recent special session, ‘Freedom of House: Special Parliament Session of the Republic of Hindu College,’ witnessed the participation of the Hon’ble Union Minister of Urban Planning and Housing and Petroleum and Natural Gas, Shri Hardeep Singh Puri.

In his address, Mr. Puri shed light on India’s global impact, prominently showcased during India’s recent G-20 presidency. He underscored various schemes initiated by the Central Government under the esteemed guidance of the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi. Mr. Puri emphasized Prime Minister Modi’s visionary leadership since 2014, acknowledging the global appreciation for his innovative approach to societal betterment.

The question and answer session saw Mr. Puri engaging with students on the topic of the “Current War in Europe and the Middle East and its Global Impact, particularly on India.” Leveraging his extensive experience as a senior diplomat and his current ministerial portfolio, he provided valuable insights into the geopolitical dynamics affecting India and the wider world.

Professor Anju Srivastava, Principal of Hindu College and President of the Republic of Hindu College, expressed pride in the college’s rich tradition of organizing talks and special sessions under its Parliament. She highlighted the college’s unique feature of fostering democratic values, where students elect leaders such as a College Prime Minister. In this vibrant system, the Parliament also consists of a leader of the Opposition, a Speaker, and a Marshal, and all students and teachers are called Hon’ble members of Parliament. Professor Srivastava stated that Shri Hardeep Singh Puri is an alumnus of Hindu College and studied here 55 years ago. He is best known for bringing laurels to the college and Delhi University through his exceptional debating and oratory skills. He was also the Prime Minister of the Republic of Hindu College during his student days. The Republic of Hindu College remains committed to nurturing intellectual curiosity, providing a platform for diverse perspectives, and contributing to the holistic development of its students, she further added.
