New Delhi: The Department of Chemistry, Hindu College, University of Delhi, successfully conducted a One-Day Hands-On Faculty Training Program on Inorganic Chemistry Practicals in the NEP-2020 Framework, under the aegis of the DBT Star College Scheme and IQAC. Professor K. Ratnabali, Dean of Academic Affairs, University of Delhi graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. This workshop aimed to equip faculty members with the tools, techniques, and pedagogical strategies necessary for effectively implementing the revised laboratory curriculum for the fourth year undergraduate students under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. A concise laboratory manual defining the protocols was also released.
The NEP-2020 signals a paradigm shift in higher education, emphasizing conceptual clarity, skill-building, critical thinking, and research orientation. In the realm of science education, particularly Chemistry, the policy encourages hands-on experimentation, green chemistry, and integration of technology into laboratory teaching. The new Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP) provides an ideal platform for reimagining laboratory instruction with a focus on sustainability, innovation, and applicability.

Over 70 faculty members from Chemistry Departments across various colleges of the University of Delhi enthusiastically participated in this intensive training session. The workshop included demonstrations of NEP-aligned inorganic chemistry experiments, discussions on best practices, and collaborative exchanges to foster curricular innovation.
In her address, Prof. Anju Srivastava, Principal, Hindu College, remarked: “The biggest reward for us is to see our students excel, grounded firmly in their institutions, and leading change. NEP has encouraged us to pursue research more proactively and take research to society through innovation and startups. This is a time for meaningful academic collaborations. We now share a longer academic journey with our students, and we must do justice to that opportunity.”

The Chief Guest, Professor K. Ratnabali, Dean of Academic Affairs, University of Delhi, appreciated the initiative and said: ‘’This is a very important initiative as this is for the first time when the fourth year has started for undergraduate students. NEP-2020 places a strong emphasis on experiential and interdisciplinary learning. Faculty development programs like this play a crucial role in translating policy into effective classroom and laboratory practices. It is through such collaborative and practical engagements that we can ensure meaningful implementation of NEP and empower students for the challenges of the future.”
