IPL 2023: Chasing 215, Mumbai beat Punjab by 6 wickets

Mohali| In the IPL 2023 match played at the IS Bindra PCA Stadium here on Wednesday, Ishan Kishan scored a brilliant 75 while Suryakumar Yadav played a flamboyant inning of 66 runs. The duo shared a 116-run partnership for the third wicket to help Mumbai Indians chase down 215 and beat Punjab Kings to win by six wickets. Tilak Verma and Tim David continued the attack to complete the chase with seven balls to spare. This win also meant that Mumbai got ten points and moved past Punjab to sixth place in the points table.

Mumbai suffered a major blow in the very first over when Rohit Sharma dismissed Rishi Dhawan. Ishan took the lead by hitting Arshdeep Singh for back-to-back fours from the off side. Kishan hit two sixes off Rishi’s length balls after Cameron Green hit Sam Curran for two fours through a top edge and swipe.

Nathan Ellis, who came in as a substitute for Prabhsimran Singh, got the breakthrough off the last ball of the power play. Green pulls straight to deep mid-wicket. Suryakumar, Mumbai’s dominant player, was off the blocks with a pull, cut and sweep off Rahul Chahar.

From the other end, Kishan hit a four off Harpreet Brar and then hit a six over deep mid-wicket. Kishan completed his half-century in 29 balls after Chahar’s flat batting for four runs.

Suryakumar gets hold of Curran by slicing over deep backward point and lofting a drive over cover for two sixes. After this, he completed his half-century in 23 balls.

Arshdeep continues his hitting skills. Kishan hit a six over deep midwicket off Arshdeep.

Suryakumar made the mistake of cutting Ellis’s delivery to short third man and Kishan hooked Arshdeep’s delivery straight to deep fine leg. Verma made sure to keep the momentum going by hitting Arshdeep for a six off the next ball and hitting another six over deep mid-wicket.

David hits a boundary and lofts Arshdeep for the same result. In the end, Tilak hit a six.

Brief scores: Punjab Kings 214/3 in 20 overs (Liam Livingstone 82 not out, Jitesh Sharma 49 not out, Piyush Chawla 2/29, Arshad Khan 1/48) Mumbai Indians 216/4 in 18.5 overs (Ishan Kishan 75), Suryakumar Yadav 66, Nathan Ellis 2/34, Rishi Dhawan 1/20) lost by six wickets.
