Wrestlers demand action against wrestlers who misbehaved at Jantar Mantar

New Delhi | Wrestlers protesting at Jantar Mantar in the national capital has written to the Union Home Ministry demanding strict action against officials responsible for allegedly manhandling them at the protest venue on Wednesday night. In the letter, he has also sought permission to bring waterproof tents, beds, gym equipment, wrestling mats, and sound systems to the protest.

In the letter, he wrote, We, Olympians and international wrestlers, have been protesting peacefully for the last 11 days at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar for our demands. (Wednesday night) Around 11 pm, we were arranging facilities to stay the night, when ACP Dharmendra of Delhi Police attacked us with around 100 police personnel. Dushyant Phogat and Rahul Yadav got head injuries in the attack.

The wrestlers alleged that the ACP hurled abuses at Olympian Vinesh Phogat, while Sakshi Malik and Sangeeta Phogat were thrashed by the police.

Attacking and insulting international wrestlers like this is demoralizing to athletes, he said. It lowers their confidence. The country is also being defamed by this. We request you to take immediate action.
