New DelhiPolice Sub-Inspector Arun, who was injured in Delhi’s Jahangirpuri violence, said on Sunday that about a thousand armed men had gathered during the communal clashes. He said the elderly and youth were carrying weapons, while during Saturday’s violence, stones were also seen in the hands of women.

“Two processions passed peacefully, this was the third procession which was suddenly attacked and the situation got out of hand,” he said.

Eight police personnel and a civilian were injured in the clashes. He was taken to BJRM Hospital.

The clash took place when a group of armed men attacked a ‘Shobha Yatra’ taken out on the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti.

At present, the local police is investigating the matter with the help of the Special Cell and the Crime Branch team, which is likely to be transferred to the Special Cell. The police are also preparing a detailed report of the matter which will be sent to the Home Ministry.

Meanwhile, the police claimed to have recovered the pistol used in the violence from the possession of Aslam (one of the main accused). Ten teams of police have been formed to investigate the matter.
