In recent times, there have been several encounters between terrorists and security forces in Jammu and Kashmir in which several terrorists and their commanders have been killed. Pakistan is trying to send consignments of weapons before the onset of winter and closure of passes due to snowfall to increase infiltration across the Line of Control.
There have also been several incidents of weapons being dropped by drones from Pakistan near the international border in Jammu. BSF personnel have recovered several caches of weapons in recent days and foiled the designs of terrorists and their masters across the border.
The Army is alert to prevent infiltration attempts along the Line of Control (LoC), but terrorists are now targeting previously peaceful areas like Chenab Valley, Udhampur and Kathua which were free from terrorism till a few years ago.
The terrorists are ambushing vehicles and using grenades and armor-piercing bullets as well as M4 assault rifles. The ongoing anti-terror operations in Kashmir have pushed the terrorists to the mountains.
