Maharashtra: Fire in Bhandara District Hospital, 10 newborns died

BHANDARA (MAHARASHTRA) | Information about the death of about 10 newborns has been revealed due to a fire in the Children Ward of District Civil Hospital, Bhandara on Saturday. This information was provided by officers.

Taking strong note of the heartbreaking incident, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has ordered an inquiry into the cause of the fire.

Expressing displeasure over the incident, the Chief Minister discussed the matter with Health Minister Rajesh Tope and district officials and said that those found responsible should be punished severely.

A fire broke out at the hospital’s Sick Newborn care unit late at 2 pm, causing a massive stampede.

While 10 babies died in the thick smoke due to the fire, 6 others were rescued safely.

The cause of the fire is unclear and the Bhandara police are investigating the case.
