Manipur women nude parade case: Governor meets victims

mphal,  Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey on Saturday met two young tribal women who were paraded naked by a mob on May 4. He handed over a check of Rs 10 lakh each to the families of the victims.

The Governor said that the whole country is ashamed of this incident and they (the victims) will be given necessary financial and moral support.

In his second visit to the relief centers in Churachandpur, the Governor urged all to work together for restoration of peace, normalcy and harmony in the State.

The Governor inspected the relief centers by visiting the rooms where the affected people were staying. He interacted with the displaced persons and distributed relief materials (hygiene kits, food items to children along with some cash).

The Governor appealed to the youth of Manipur not to take law into their own hands and desist from illegal activities.

Interacting with the displaced people who have taken shelter in the relief camps, Anusuiya said that she is visiting the camps to console, sympathize and extend her support to the affected people.

He said that the government will give compensation to the affected people, as well as make every possible effort to restore peace and improve the future of the people.

The Governor also interacted with the families of ex-servicemen and civil society organization leaders in Tuibong and listened to their grievances.

Kuki Impi, ITLF, Kuki Mahila Sangathan Human Rights submitted memorandum to the Governor.

The governor, in his capacity as the chairman of the Rajya Sainik Board, also handed over Rs 15,000 in cash to the families of seven ex-servicemen along with some relief material (blankets, jumbo boxes etc.).

He also handed over relief material to the Red Cross Society of the district.

The flow of basic amenities, including medical, has been disrupted due to the blockade of roads.

She had brought some medical supplies and other relief material including mosquito nets, tarpaulins, hygiene kits etc.

Stating that she felt the pain and suffering of the affected people and their eagerness to return to their respective homes, the governor appealed to both the communities to come together, hold talks and find a permanent solution to end the violence .

Appealing to all concerned not to resort to vigilantism, the Governor reiterated that various central forces are there to ensure safety for all.

He appealed to all concerned to extend support to restore peace and normalcy in the state.
